The Vedas, Divine sound vibrations of immense potency and the most ancient record of humanity, were preserved in Vedic families from very ancient times. The Vedas have been handed down by oral tradition from Guru to disciple or father to son till today. The repositories of Vedas were dedicating their whole lives for the preservation thereof, leading an austere life, meditating on the Devatas invoking divine grace for universal welfare and individual good.
His Holiness Paramacharya Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal, the Sage of Kanchi Mutt, was concerned at the dwindling number of Veda patis and felt that the existing Vedapatis, numbering about 2000, who have no other means of livelihood except to officiate as priests or do parayanam, should be helped to augment their meagre income. Therefore His Holiness in March 1983, suggested the formation of a Trust namely, VEDA PATA NIDHI TRUST, to give permanent financial aid for life to indigent Veda Pandits. Sri S. Annadurai Ayyangar was instrumental in mobilising resources for the Trust by means of various appeals to donors all over India.
Recently we doubled the monthly remittance to Vedapatis from Rs 200/-
to Rs 400/-, from Rs 250/- to Rs 500/- and from Rs 300/- to Rs 600/-. For
this purpose, the Trust needs additional fund of Rs 12 lakhs per year or
a corpus of approximately Rs 1 crore per year. The Trust has prepared the
following scheme for the purpose.
A sum of Rs 5000/- to Rs 6000/- per year is required for sending monthly remittance to a Vedic Pandit. The donor is requsted to adopt a Vedic pandit whose name and address will be intimated to him. He may donate atleast a sum of Rs 5000/- per annum or Rs 50,000/- as one time donation towards the corpus (or 120 USD per annum or 1200 USD as one contribution towards the corpus) of this Trust, which will inturn be sent to the Vedic pandit as aid. The donor can directly correspond with the Vedic pandit if he so desires. Therefore we request you to adopt the above scheme if it is suitable to you, or give a liberal recurring donation to his noble cause and be blessed by the Sankaracharyas of the Kanchi Mutt.
Donations (exempt under section 80-G of the Income Tax Act) in the form of crossed Cheques or Drafts drawn in the name of "VEDA PATA NIDHI TRUST (Regd)" may be sent to
